Who could John Boyega be playing in the MCU?

John Boyega, star of Star Wars, Pacific Rim Uprising and Attack the Block has revealed that he is in talks with Marvel to star in the MCU.

During a fan Q and A at Awesome Con in Washington D.C. Boyega was directly asked if he would take over the mantle of Blade in the MCU, Boyega said that he didn't want to do this as it was a "spit in the face" to original Blade, Wesley Snipes, but Boyega did say that he is currently in talks with Marvel.

Boyega said that his involvement could be some time in the future considering that he is quite busy at the moment, (he will be starring in Star Wars Episode IX which may or may not be the end of his involvement in that franchise depending on how the trilogy ends) either way, Boyega's involvement in the MCU is a great draw and will bring a load more fans into Marvel.

But the question is what role could Boyega be playing? he has already said no to Blade but what if Snipes gave his blessing for the mantel to be passed on? who knows, but below are a few suggestions for characters that we think Boyega would be great at portraying......

1 Blade

Bio
Name:     Eric Brooks
Born:      Soho, London
Year:       1929.
Parents: Lucas Cross
               Tara aka Vanessa Brooks
Abilities: Immune to silver
                Immune to garlic
                Immune to sunlight.                              Superhuman strength
                Superhuman speed
                Superhuman stamina
                Superhuman agility
                Superhuman reflexes
                Superhuman senses.

Whilst experiencing labor complications, Tara sought a doctor's assistance. The doctor named Deacon Frost, who was actually a vampire, attacked Tara as she gave birth, causing a strange genetic mutation as a series of enzymes were passed onto her baby.

The enzymes transformed the child into a half-man, half-vampire hybrid.  Frost was forced to flee before he could kill the boy but Tara died from her injuries, leaving the boy orphaned, he was named Eric Brooks and was raised at a brothel where his mother sheltered..

While he was growing up on the streets Eric encountered an American vampire hunter named Jamal Afari.  Afari soon learned about Eric and his origins' and took him under his wing, becoming his mentor, helping him to control his powers. For the purpose of the movies, and subsequent comic books Jamal Afari was replaced by Abraham Whistler as Blades mentor and father figure.

How could this fit into the MCU?

The Hollywood Reporter broke news back in November 2017 that Sony Pictures, still trying to milk every last penny from the rights to the Spider-Man universe (despite not using Spider-Man outside of the MCU) were pushing ahead with another movie in their sub-franchise, this one based on Morbius The Living Vampire and whilst their Venom movie is currently in development (please god don't ruin it) they are now in the active development stage and have brought on board Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama who worked on the recent Power Rangers movie to Pen the script

Dr. Michael Morbius a brilliant scientist suffered from a debilitating blood disease and developed an experimental treatment using vampire bats and electroshocks. Morbius suffered an unexpected side effect, he became a pseudo-vampire.

Needing to consume blood in order to survive, Morbius developed typical vampire tropes like an allergic reaction to sunlight, the power of flight, super strength, speed, and healing but His appearance changed too he gained fangs, his nose flattened to appear like a bat, and his skin turned deathly white.

This could prove a perfect way to cross the MCU's predominately science based movies with more mystic and horror based sub-genre as Morbius first appeared in the pages of Spider-Man but has also been hunted by Blade, a crossover which has previously made it to the small screen in Spider-Man The Animated Series, Episode 22, Blade The Vampire Hunter.

What are the chances of this happening?

John Watts, Director of Spider-Man: Homecoming said in an interview with We Got This Covered “Morbius is kind of cool!” he said “The tone of the character is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool. Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? That’d be neat.”

Sounds promising except when this news broke whilst under intense questionning at Awesome Con in Washington DC, Boyega denied any interest in portraying Blade as playing the role would be a "spit in the face" to original Blade, Wesley Snipes.  Boyega said "[I'm] all for Wesley playing Blade [again],"

Is this final confirmation to say that Boyega definatley rules out this role or a clever diversion until the news can be officially broke at either D23 or San Diego Comic Con?  your guess is as good as ours?

2 Captain Britain

Bio
Name:     Brian Braddock
Born:      Maldon, Essex
Parents: James Braddock sr.
                Elizabeth Braddock
Abilities: Superhuman strength
                Superhuman speed
                Superhuman endurance
                Superhuman agility
                Superhuman durability
                Superhuman reflexes
                Superhuman senses
                Force fields
                Energy beams
                Flight

Brian Braddock was born at his family home, the Braddock Manor. He was the son of Lord James Braddock and Lady Elizabeth Braddock.  Brian, a graduate student in physics, at London's Thames University. Working under his mentor Dr. Travis at the Darkmoor Research Center a mercenary named Reaver attacked the center to kidnap the scientists within. Escaping to get help, Brian fled on a motorbike, but was run off the road.

Bleeding to death, Brian was approached by mythical figure Merlin, who told him that he could live if he became Britain's next champion he was offered The Amulet of Right (Life) or the Sword of Might (Death). Brian chose the amulet creating Captain Britain.

It's about damn time Britain got our hero, why not work in conjunction with Film4 to create something truly unique for the MCU?

How could this fit into the MCU?

Captain Britain has been a member of the Secret Avengers, a Black Ops unit established by Steve Rogers aka Captain America.  though not confirmed judging from the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, Rogers seems to have established a similar team basing themselves out of Wakanda,

Merchandise for the movie appeared on the Toys ‘R’ Us website (Rest in peace) each with their own character bios. The Bio for Captain America seems to hint at something similar to the Secret Avengers.

The Character Bio reads:
The Super-Soldier has remained under the radar while continuing to do what he believes is right – saving the world one clandestine mission at a time.

Clandestine missions?  sounds quite secretive to us, could this be the beginning of an even bigger MCU?  possibly.   a perfect way to include a cameo from Captain Britain as Rogers casts the net far and wide for other powered individuals.

What are the chances of this happening?

In an interview with Hey U Guys, Kevin Feige, head honcho at Marvel studios was asked if the MCU would ever introduce Captain Britain.  Feige said, “We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see.”

so not a categorical yes, but at least the is a chance and the interest from actors is strong, John Boyega is great and has the charm to pull off this portrayal, so fingers crossed.

3 Moon Knight

Bio
Name:      Marc Spector
Born:       Chicago, Illinois
Parents:  Elias Spector
                Mrs Spector (details                          unknown)
Abilities: During the night Moon                      Knight gains:
                Enhanced strength
                Enhanced endurance
                Enhanced reflexes
These powers heighten                    during a full moon
                prophetic visions.

Marc Spector was the son of a rabbi who in the 1930's fled Europe to escape the Holocaust. As he grew older Marc rejected his father's beliefs and joined the military then the CIA where he and the agency were betrayed by several people close to Marc.

Fed up with the CIA, Marc became a mercenary spending years as a hired gun.  Marc was easily persuaded to fight for anyone who paid him enough.  Marc eventually fell in with Raoul Bushman, a bloodthirsty terrorist. Bothered by Bushman's viscious actions Marc questionned his mercenary lifestyle and whilst on a mission in the Sudan  Marc saw Bushman assault a town, looking for an archaeologist named Dr. Peter Alraune who discovered an pharaoh's tomb which possibly contained gold. Bushman and Spector eventually locate the site.

Fearing for his and his daughters life Dr. Alraune tried to stab Bushman but Marc warned him in time.  Wanting to take the site treasure for himself Bushman murdered Alraune.  Disgusted by Bushmans actions, Marc helped Dr. Alraune's daughter Marlene escape but Bushman caught Spector.

After Bushman executed the townsfolk, Spector attacked him, but was defeated and dumped in the desert to die. Spector dragged himself back to the tomb Dr. Alraune discovered and was found by Marlene who took him into the tomb, placing him at the foot of a statue of the moon god, Khonshu where he died.  As Marlene cried over his body, Marc woke.  Spector believed Khonshu had brought him back to life to serve as the Moon's Knight.

Helped by Marlene and his friends, Spector honed his abilities to fight crime. Using the money he made as a mercenary, Marc created the identity of New York millionaire Steven Grant.

How could this fit into the MCU?

Black Panther has already explored the themes of gods with the inclusion of Bast the Panther God who bestowed powers on the kings of Wakanda. Khonshu being an Egyptian god, lives in Heliopolis which is located in a dimension adjacent to Earth's, a small planetary body similar to Asgard.  As Asgard is connected to Earth using the Rainbow Bridge, Heliopolis is connected by a golden bridge through space called the Path of the Gods.

What are the chances of this happening?

In an interview with IGN director and screenwriter Stephen S DeKnight ‘I wouldn’t mind taking a crack at Moon Knight at some point,’ DeKnight who produced Season 1 of Daredevil on Netflix went on to say, ‘There are so many characters that I love in the Marvel universe. Really, for me, it would be about schedule. ‘My schedule these days, as you imagine, is a little tight. God, you know, when I signed onto Daredevil, I expressed an interest in Iron Fist and the Punisher, which I both loved. I’d love to see Moon Knight get a little bit of love. Great, great character.’

With Disney creating their own streaming platform the chances of any more Netflix shows beyond the sequels to the mini-Defenders verse shows that already exist could be reduced but given the more adult content of the Netflix shows and their popularity with fans it may be that Disney continue to license the shows to Netflix to keep their own streaming service as family friendly as possible meaning the chances of a Netflix Moon Knight show could greatly improve.

4 Nova

Bio
Name:      Richard Rider
Born:       Hempstead, New York
Parents:  Charles Rider
                Gloria Rider
Abilities: Flight
                Superhuman strength
                Superhuman speed
                Superhuman durability
                Expert hand to hand combatant
Ability to exert influence                                        over gravitational forces and                                open wormholes

Richard Rider was born in Hempstead, New York. As a teenager, he was chosen randomly by Rhomann Dey, last survivor of the Nova Corps, to gain his power and take his place the rank of Nova Prime following Xandar's destruction by the pirate Zorr. Having been mortally wounded, Dey followed Zorr to Earth but was unable to defeat him due to his injuries. Dey had to transfer his power to a human hoping whoever they were will take up his cause.

Rider became super strong, invulnerable and the ability the power to fly, as well but with no guidance on how to use his new powers.

How could this fit into the MCU?

Rhomann Dey has already featured in the MCU, portrayed by John C Reilly, a member of the Nova Corps, who became an ally of The Guardians of the Galaxy.  With the Nova Corps in possession of the Power Stone it is safe to say that Thanos will invade Xandar for it, probably destroying it in the process.  As the last surviving member of the Nova Corps Dey could follow Sanctuary II as it travels through the Galaxy to Earth to die in the early stages of Thanos' invasion and during the events of Infinity War and the months afterwards Rider can gain and learn his new abilities to become Nova, paving the way for Marvel to move to more Cosmic stories,

What are the chances of this happening?

The pieces are there to fit together for this one, though nothing has been confirmed, during a Facebook Q and A last year (2017) when asked about the possibility of a Nova Movie, Director of Guardians Of The Galaxy and GOTG Vol 2 James Gunn stated that Marvel are considering introducing the 'real' Nova to the MCU.

With Captain Marvel focusing on the Skrull/Kree war and Agents of SHIELD focusing on cosmic issues, now may be the best time to introduce Nova as the next MCU character.

5 Taskmaster

Bio
Name:      Unknown
Born:       Bronx, New York
Parents:  Uknown
Abilities: Photographic reflexes
Lethal in all forms of combat
                Photographic memory
                Voice impersonation.
                Genius level intellect
                Master assassin and tactician
                Exceptional athlete
                Master swordsman and marksman
                Master of disguise

Who said anything about John Boyega having to play a hero in in te MCU, how about a villain?

Little is known of the childhood of Taskmaster accept that he was born with an unbelievable ability to use mnemonic methods of remembering. He watched a cowboy television show and found he could duplicate the lasso rope tricks immediately after seeing it.  As he grew up he began to learn and hone his skills but when he saw a man perform a complex dive at a pool he almost died duplicating the move as he had not learnt how to swim first.

Concerned that his ability was dangerous the boys mother took him to see psychiatrists who studied him and eventually named his ability “photographic reflexes.” Taskmaster used his ability to became a star quarterback of his high school football team after watching one single pro football game.

Taskmaster made a choice when he left school, to either be a hero or a villain, he chose to become a villain as he wanted to use his abilities to make money and became a hired mercenary.

How could this fit into the MCU?

Having first appeared in Avengers #195 (1980) Taskmaster has fought the majority of the Avengers over the years usually hired to do so by another of the villains, i think the best way to fit Taskmaster into the MCU would be in the next Spider-Man movie, hired by Victor Tooms as revenge for destroying his life and business.

What are the chances of this happening?

Probably slim to none as there is literally no talk or mention of Marvel looking into including this character in any future MCU projects currently, which is a shame given the potential of Taskmaster to be a formidable villain.

6 Robert Maverick aka Red Hulk

Bio

Name:      Robert Maverick
Born:       Uknown
Parents:  Uknown
Abilities: Military tactician
                Superhuman strength
                Superhuman stamina
                Superhuman durability
                Great leaping
                Resistance to fire

General Robert L. Maverick worked for a covert military facility on a program called Project: Troubleshooter, used for the production of human weapons.

Maverick became a member of its U.S.Avengers. Using an improved version of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Hulk Plug-Ins, designed to give a wearer the powers and abilities of Hulk for 1 hour at a time, Maverick became the new Red Hulk.

The Hulk Plug-In cause Maverick to become weak. but a Hydra double-agent offered Robert an injection of modified nanites that bypass the Plug-ins safety protocols.  taking advantage of this opportunity, Maverick took the injection but this allowed Hydra to take control of Red Hulk's body, even though Hydra was defeated and the nanites destroyed, the nanites prevented Maverick from turning back into his human form.

How could this fit into the MCU?

Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross is well established in the MCU as a General chasing The Hulk in the Incredible Hulk Movie and also the Secretary of State in Captain America: Civil War, in te comic books Ross was the first incarnation of The Red Hulk.  During the Incredible Hulk movie we learn that Ross had been put in charge of the military project called the Bio-Tech Force Enhancement, which sought to recreate the Super Soldier serum create by Dr Erskine and tested on Captain America, he used this research to turn Emil Blonsky into The Abomination and even spent the movie chasing down the Hulk in an effort to 'weaponize' him.

With Banner back on Earth and in America following the events on Sakaar and Asgard during Thor: Ragnarok, Hulk will be subject to the enforced Sokovia accords and rather than give up the pure uncontrollable rage of the Hulk, he could help Secretary of State Ross create a device to temporarily recreates the powers of the Hulk, but keep the subjects brain and experiences in control. Following the Events of Infinity War, Banner can work on this device and test it on Maverick, in time a Replacement Avengers Roster in 'The New Avengers'

What are the chances of this happening?

Again no talks currently to bring the Red Hulk to the MCU, but hopefully this is something that they will consider as The Red Hulk could be a great replacement in the Avengers lineup should Banner decide to hang up the Purple trousers.

So that's our list....
Who do you think Boyega could play in the MCU?
Thanks for reading!
